Dr. Martens is a footwear brand most often known as Doc Martens, Docs or DMs. Developed by Dr. Klaus Märtens in Germany in 1945, the footwear is distinct because of its air-cushioned sole (dubbed Bouncing Soles).

In the United Kingdom, the first pair of Dr. Martens boots came out on 1 April, 1960.  The style was named 1460 (based on the date 1/4/60) and is still in production today. It is an eight-eyelet, cherry-red, Nappa leather design. They were popular among workers such as postmen, police officers and factory workers. Over the years the boots and shoes have been especially popular among punks, skinheads and members of a few other youth subcultures.

Decades have come and gone but the 1460 is still there, unique, individual and original.  Dr. Martens have always been different. Without asking or being able to stop it, it happened to them.  Today, with a generation who have always had email, mp3s and downloads, it is as relevant and vibrant as ever.
